Established in 1946 as a friendly central Austin neighborhood service garage.  We pay tribute to the original owner & station’s namesake M.E. “Gene” Johnson, who has since passed away.

Through the years, our customers keep coming back and have come to expect the familiar faces & “service with a smile”, trusting in fair pricing & honest vehicle repairs & recommendations that they receive here.

The business was purchased in 1993 by the current owners, Bubba & Tom, who were employed at the garage before purchasing the business. They are here every day to ensure you are treated right and that your vehicle is repaired to your satisfaction.

What does that mean?

For today’s car owner, auto repair is more complicated than ever. Vehicles keep getting more complex, while technology and diagnostic tools constantly change as well.  As a result, finding a competent, knowledgeable automotive professional can be a real challenge. Your M.E. “Gene” Johnson ASE Certified Technicians have proven themselves to be knowledgeable professionals.  To remain certified, ASE-certified professionals must be retested every five years.

We are a BBB Accredited Business registered with the Better Business Bureau.

We are a Texas AAA Approved Auto Repair Center.

What does that mean?

According to AAA: "The AAA Approved Auto Repair program approves only facilities that meet the highest standards in vehicle repair, competency, reliability, cleanliness, overall experience and fair pricing. These repair facilities must also employ only trained, certified technicians, and offer timely repairs, convenient hours and courteous service."

We have been approved by the state of Texas in not only performing state vehicle inspections, but also performing the complex emission repairs required to bring your vehicle back into compliance should it fail a state inspection.
